Special Disability Accommodation Homes
Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) refers to accommodation for people who require specialist housing solutions, including to assist with the delivery of supports that cater for their extreme functional impairment or very high support needs.
Funding is only provided to a small proportion of NDIS participants with extreme functional impairment or very high support needs who meet specific eligibility criteria. Here is the link.
The standard has four categories of SDA design which are set out in the SDA Rules: Improved Liveability, Robust, Fully Accessible and High Physical Support.
In addition, SDA compliance consists of Liveable Housing Australia (LHA) Silver or Platinum compliance.
There are important points to note about SDA accommodation.
SDA has design features which are not readily available in the mainstream housing market, and involve significant cost beyond what would be funded as home modifications.
Our strategy is aimed at producing standard designs which have been upgraded to these standards. We are also working towards a standard cost for these homes.
We work with Disability Accommodation Australia to provide a needs driven build process.
